8Tuner
I have created
custom folder icons to be used with 8Tuner, but none of the icons shows
up in Folder Icon Option's dialog.
Mac OS 9 uses the icon resource 'icns', which supports more
colors than the traditional 256-color icons. Resorcerer can help you
edit and create the icons in this type of resource.
Follow these steps in Resorcerer v2.2:
1. Create your icons with traditional ways.
2. Open 'icl8' resource.
3. Select "Build/Update 'icns'" menu item from the "Icon Family" menu.
4. This will create a correct 'icns' for you.
'icns' actually is a structure that contains all icon family resources
into a single resource. However, Resorcerer can't visually create the
32-bit icons. You need some other shareware programs to do it.
I was changing
many folder and system icons and trying to find my favorite ones, then
suddenly 8Tuner crashed.
Changing icons frequently consumes lots of memory resources.
Turning on the memory display option in Preferences can help you
monitor the memory usage. If you change icons frequently, we recommend
you increase 8Tuner's preferred memory size in Finder's Get Info box.
I
changed the icons, folders etc. and I got tired of that set, how do I
change it back to the way it was?
You can download the Original Icon file from 9Tuner's
download page. Once you have downloaded the file, open any of the files
included in the download package, select all icons, and tune your icons
back to Mac OS 9's default sets.
I
forgot to select "Back Up System Files" option before I tuned my
system. Now I decide not to use 8Tuner and change everything back to
the OS 8 default, how do I do that?
If you have used the Back Up System Files option under the
Action menu, you can simply choose "Restore Backup Files" option to
restore your original System files. However, if you did not do this,
you will need to manually copy the original system files from your
system software CD.
To accomplish this, please carefully follow the steps below:
1. Run Disk First Aid or Disk Tools application (found in your system
software CD) to verify your hard disk first.
2. Insert your system software CD and restart your computer (for
successful boot-up from CD, hold down the "C" key while starting up).
3. Open the "System Folder" in your CD, and arrange the window position
so you can see it.
4. Open the "System Folder" in your startup hard disk, and arrange the
window position so you can see it.
If you are using Mac OS 8.5.1 w/Blue & White
G3 or iMac:
5. Drag the "System Resources" file in your hard disk into the Trash.
Do NOT empty the Trash at this point.
6. Drag the "System Resources" file from the CD into "System Folder" in
your hard disk.
7. Drag the "Finder" file in your hard disk into the Trash. Do NOT
empty the Trash at this point.
8. Drag the "Finder" file from the CD into "System Folder" in your hard
disk.
9. Drag the "System" file in your hard disk into the Trash. Do NOT
empty the Trash at this point.
10. Drag the "System" file from the CD into "System Folder" in your
hard disk.
11. Drag the "Mac OS ROM" file in your hard disk into the Trash. Do NOT
empty the Trash at this point.
12. Drag the "Mac OS ROM" file from the CD into "System Folder" in your
hard disk.
If you are using Mac OS 8.5/8.5.1:
10. Drag the "System" file from the CD into "System Folder" in your
hard disk.
If you are using Mac OS 8.0/8.1:
5. Open the "Extensions" folder (in the System Folder) in your CD, and
arrange the window position so you can see it.
6. Open the "Extensions" folder (in the System Folder) in your hard
disk, and arrange the window position so you can see it.
7. Drag the "Appearance Extension" file in your hard disk (in the
Extensions folder) into the Trash. Do NOT empty the Trash at this point.
8. Drag the "Appearance Extension" file from the CD (in the Extensions
folder) into "System Folder" in your hard disk.
9. Drag the "Finder" file in your hard disk into the Trash. Do NOT
empty the Trash at this point.
10. Drag the "Finder" file from the CD into "System Folder" in your
hard disk.
11. Drag the "System" file in your hard disk into the Trash. Do NOT
empty the Trash at this point.
12. Drag the "System" file from the CD into "System Folder" in your
hard disk.
After the swapping files is done, open Startup Disk control panel,
click your normal startup hard disk, close all windows and restart your
Mac. As you can see, the process simply involves file swapping.
Please also use Disk First Aid or Disk Tools application again to
verify your hard disk after the restart.

AppTab
The
Command + Tab hot key switches applications without showing AppTab's 3D
dialog.
Mac OS 8.5.x has a built-in command + tab hot key for its own
application switching. To enable AppTab in this situation, change the
hot key to a custom setting, then set up your own hot key rather than
the default command + tab.
I just
installed AppTab from one of the shareware collection CDs, but AppTab
tells me that the evaluation period has expired.
The
earlier versions of AppTab (v1.5/v1.6) had time stamp problem. Please
delete the "AppTab Preferences" file, then download and install the
newest version of AppTab from the unsupported area in our download page.

EjectMenu
When I am
in the hot key setup dialog, there are no drive names for me to select.
You must insert the disk into its drive. If the disk you are
setting up is already in the drive or if you insert the disk after the
setup dialog has displayed, click the "Rescan" button to refresh the
drive list.
When
I try to set up hot keys for my network drives, none of the mounted
network drives shows up in the setup dialog.
EjectMenu's hot key feature looks for the unique driver
reference number that your system assigns for each drive. Since network
drives do not have unique driver reference numbers, you can't set up
hot keys for network drives.
I
have changed the SCSI ID of one of my removable drives, then the hot
key for that drive no longer works.
EjectMenu's hot key feature looks for the unique driver
reference number that your system assigns for each drive. It is
possible your system has reassigned a different driver references
number for the drive after you changed the SCSI ID. Simply set up the
hot key again will resolve this problem.
Finder Chance
I have
checked a menu item to intercept, but nothing happens when I select the
menu item from Finder's menu.
Your Finder menu item's text may be different than
FinderChance's built-in lookup text (default to Mac OS Finder's menu
item text). Click the Icon button on the right side of the checkbox,
then enter the correct menu item text that matches your Finder. This
also applies to localized version of Mac OS other than US English.

FlashStars
I chose a
sound file to be used with FlashStars, but no sound was playing when
the screen saver is activated.
If the size of the sound file you selected is big, the file
usually requires more memory to play. Try to increase FlashStars'
preferred memory size in Finder's Get Info box.
When
I try to pull down Apple menu, FlashStars always activates.
You have selected the Activate corner on the top-left corner
of your main screen. Change to a different corner will resolve the
problem.
I Love Native! Pro
I have a
high capacity hard disk and hundreds of thousands of files stored in
the disk. When I scan my entire hard disk, the list window displays
scanned files then suddenly I Love Native! crashes.
I Love Native! Pro uses the standard Mac OS list control
definition, which has 32K of limit. If the disk or folder you scan
contains more files than I Love Native! Pro can handle, try to scan
each sub folder individually.
When I run I Love Native! Pro v3.0, an
error occurs and tells me that "IconServicesLib" cannot be found, then
the program quits.
This error occurs only on I Love Native! Pro v3.0 with Mac OS
8.0 on PowerPC machines. The I Love Native! Pro v3.0.1 or later has
this problem corrected.
